Intra-Oral Camera
The intra-oral camera is very helpful in letting the patient see what we see without trying to look into a small mirror. The intra-oral camera picture is shone on a 17 in .screen and can be magnified several times to get even a closer look. You will be able to see cracks, chips, etc in the restorations. Often when they fail by cracking or chipping they do not hurt yet because the decay hasn’t started or isn’t big enough to warn you. We also use the intra-oral camera to document to the insurance company what the problem is that we are fixing, especially if the x-ray doesn’t show the problem. We don’t use it on every patient, but you may request us to use it on you to better show you what we are seeing. It does not replace the use of x-rays since the insurance industry does not recognize the intra-oral camera as an x-ray replacement. So x-rays are still required in all cases where insurance coverage is needed.
